The Realme 7 Pro brings a lot of features that not many manufacturers are able to bring at its price tag. It packs a 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display flanked by stereo speakers, fast 65W SuperDart charging for its 4,500mAh battery and a good combination of specifications.
Design and build
With a plastic back, there is not much premium about the Realme 7 Pro. Although it is 8.7mm thick, the company has done well to keep weight distribution in check, just at 182g. In combination, this allows the smartphone to stay compact in the hand. As for connectivity, you are looking at a standard offering. The left side houses the volume rockers and the SIM-card slot whereas the right side has a power button.
Speaking of the SIM-card slot, you can store two nano-SIM cards and a micro-SD card all simultaneously here. This is not something you see in mid-range 5G smartphones but because the 7 Pro only supports 4G, you benefit from this. The top edge houses a secondary microphone for noise cancelling whereas the bottom edge sports one part of the stereo speaker setup, the Type-C USB port, the primary microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack, just like its predecessor.
Display and multimedia
While the Realme 7 Pro lacks a high refresh rate display, it makes up for that with a 6.4-inch flat Super AMOLED panel. This provides adequate pop when watching multimedia and is a huge step up from IPS LCD panels, especially when they are not tuned well. However, for those that are accustomed to 90Hz displays and higher, the lack of the feature will be noticeable when scrolling and browsing through the user interface.
If you are someone who enjoys watching content, this screen is fantastic. This is not just because of the vibrant colours it is able to display but also because of the phone’s stereo speakers. In combination, the experience rivals higher-end flagship smartphones which for a phone at this price tag is saying something. The AMOLED panel also means you get an in-screen optical fingerprint scanner on the phone which is both fast and responsive.
There is a 32MP camera hole-punch camera on the display alongside a quad-camera setup on the rear. Here, you find a 64MP primary lens with a Sony IMX682 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. While we are yet to test these in-depth, it is nice to see Realme throw in a lot of software features to play around with. Night mode, astro-photography and a macro mode among others are just a few examples.
Performance
Where the phone falls a bit short is with internals. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G octa-core processor is enough for regular usage however it will struggle a bit if you intend to game seriously. The 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage are enough for a lot of people but this is just for the few who intend to game and capitalise on the smartphone’s bigger display.
As for battery performance, it favours the Realme 7 Pro. You find a 4,500mAh battery which can deliver good backup. However, topping that off with 65W SuperDart charging makes it even better. According to Realme, you can top up the smartphone from 0-100 per-cent in just 34 minutes but this is something we will test in our upcoming full review.
