At today’s Apple event, we got to see the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini among the Pro variants of the iPhone. Both the 12 and 12 mini bring 5G speeds, better processing power and refined displays.
Breakthrough 5G
5G connectivity on the iPhone 12 and 12 mini boasts improved speeds for faster downloads, uploads and high quality video streaming. They deliver this on a global scale allowing you to enjoy a secure and fast connection at all times.
Both smartphones offer the broadest 5G coverage with US models specifically sporting millimetre wave for higher frequency 5G resulting in faster speeds.
A14 Bionic chip
The A14 Bionic is the first chip in the smartphone industry to be built on the 5-nanometer process. It is faster and more efficient in not only running iOS 14 but also enables console-quality gaming experiences and powerful computational photography. To push the limits of machine learning (ML), the A14 Bionic comes with a 16-core Neural Engine for an 80 per-cent increase in performance.
Durable design and immersive display
Both the iPhone 12 and 12 mini are durable, with the latter being the smallest, thinnest and lightest 5G smartphone in the world. Both models come with a sleek flat-edge design with an aerospace-grade aluminium enclosure, IP68 certification and Ceramic Shield protection on the front. This goes behind glass by adding a new high temperature crystallisation step to the display subsequently increasing drop performance by 4x.
While the iPhone 12 sports a 6.1-inch size, the iPhone 12 mini comes with a 5.4-inch display. Both of these are all-screen Super Retina XDR displays that stretch further to the edges. The come with industry-leading colour accuracy, a 2 million-to-1 contrast ratio and an immersive HDR viewing experience.
Advanced dual-camera system
With a boost in computational photography from its processor, the iPhone 12 and 12 mini bring a new dual-camera system. The unit is made of a 12MP ultra-wide and a new 12MP wide sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. This allows for 27 per-cent more light in low-light photos and videos. However, with computational photography, you will be able to take advantage of Night mode on all cameras. Furthermore, the smartphones equip Smart HDR 3 to intelligently adjust white balance, contrast, texture and saturation in photos.
The iPhone 12 camera can also shoot HDR video with Dolby Vision at 30fps, making it the first and only device to enable an end-to-end Dolby Vision experience. This means you can capture, edit and share cinema-grade videos natively on the iPhone 12. Both models also come with improved cinematic video stabilisation, more true-to-life selfie videos with Dolby Vision and Night mode Time-Lapse for low light scenarios.
Return of MagSafe
To improve the wireless charging experience, the iPhone 12 and 12 mini come with MagSafe. Through this, you get an efficient and seamless experience with magnets around the wireless charging coil of the smartphone.
This makes your iPhone connect perfectly every time, with MagSafe chargers giving you 15W of power.
Pricing and availability
The Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB configurations in blue, green, black, white and (PRODUCT)RED starting at Dh 3,399 and Dh2,999 respectively. Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 begin on October 16 with availability beginning on October 23. As for the iPhone 12 mini, pre-orders begin on November 6 with available beginning on November 13. As part of Apple’s commitment to the environment, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will ship without a charging adaptor and wired earphones, coming only with a Type-C to Lightning charging cable.
