Last year, there were many clear distinctions between the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro including display, battery and most importantly price. This year, as that line between the two blurs, it gets even more difficult to choose between the 12 and 12 Pro.
We’ve had the devices for just over 48 hours now and we thought we would list out a few similarities and differences to help you make the choice that is right for you.
iPhone 12 and 12 Pro
Similarities
If you’re looking at the phones from the front, you’re not going to see a difference. Both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro come with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with 2532-by-1170-pixel resolution at 460 ppi, featuring HDR, True Tone, P3 Wide Color, and Haptic Touch.
Both devices also come with the A14 Bionic chip, Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, Face ID, Battery-life of up to 17 hours video playback (the exact man of the battery is yet unconfirmed but it’s assumed they have the same battery), the new Ceramic Shield on the displa, IP68 (6 meters depth for 30 mins) water-resistance and the lightening port connector on the bottom as well as MagSafe wireless charging capabilities.
The phones also share the same 12MP Ultra Wide and Wide cameras as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options.
Differences
Now while the displays on the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are the same, their brightness peak levels differ at 625 nits and 800 nits respectively. This isn’t the biggest difference but if you had both phones side by side, you would notice it.
As far as the bodies go, while they look and feel almost the same, the 12 is made from aerospace-grade aluminum while the 12 Pro is made of surgical-grade stainless steel.
On the iPhone 12 Pro you’ll find one more 12MP telephoto lens (not to be seen on the 12) as well as a LiDAR sensor. Along with the hardware, both phones will record in Dolby Vision HDR but the 12 will only be able to do so up to 4K 30fps while the 12 Pro will be able to record up to 4K 60fps.
While the 12 will have a base storage of 64GB, the 12 Pro will go as high as 512GB. Also, the 12 will come with 4GB of RAM, while the 12 Pro will come with 6GB of RAM.
Last but not least, the 12 will be available in Blue, Green, PRODUCT(RED), White, and Black while the 12 Pro will be available in Pacific Blue, Gold, Graphite, and Silver.
iPhone 12 and 12 Pro: Which one should you buy?
According to us, the iPhone 12 is the iPhone for everyone. It comes with a great processor, a beautiful display, lovely colours and very capable cameras, all at the starting price of Dh3399.
The iPhone 12 Pro is for those who need a little more. More RAM, more cameras and a stronger body. Starting at Dh4199, the 12 Pro definitely asks for more too.
These are times where spending frivolously might not be a smart idea, so sit down and carefully think about your requirements before making the choice between these devices.
