New Delhi: The Indian arm of the French automaker Renault India has announced that it will be hiking the prices of its flagship models- Kwid, Triber, and Duster up to Rs 28,000 due to increasing input cost from January 1, 2021. “The price increase is a result of the steadily increasing input costs across the spectrum, including input costs for steel, aluminum, plastics, and other affiliated cost increases during the pandemic,” Renault India said in a statement.

The French carmaker currently sells three models including Kwid, Duster, and Triber in India. The automobile is also expected to launch a new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Kiger in the first half of 2021.
The Renault Kiger will be based on the CMFA+ platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber. The sub-4metre compact SUV will be first launched in India, followed by its introduction in other international markets. The Kiger is expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Renault currently retails Kwid from Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), Triber price ranges from Rs 5.12 lakh to Rs 7.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Duster is available in the price range of Rs 8.59 lakh to Rs 13.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India also falls in the line of increasing the prices of the models due to heavy input costs. The biggest automaker in India on December 10, announced that it will increase prices of its vehicles from January to offset the adverse impact of rising input costs.
Over the past year, the cost of the company’s vehicles has been impacted adversely due to an increase in various input costs, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing.
“Hence, it has become imperative for the company to pass on some impact of the above additional cost to customers through a price increase in January 2021. This price increase shall vary for different models,” it added.
The automaker currently sells a range of vehicles from entry-level small car Alto with a price starting at ₹2.95 lakh to multi-purpose vehicle XL6 priced up to ₹11.52 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
