Tattoo shop still taking appointments despite restrictions ordered to close by AHS
Alberta Health Services ordered a tattoo shop to close after an inspector noticed it was still open and taking appointments.
A health inspector walked into the New Dimension Tattoo shop at 808 Edmonton Tr. N.E. on Thursday and noted it was open and “taking appointments for consultations and tattoo services,” according to an AHS executive order issued Friday to owner Peel Smith.
The AHS inspector also noted that the staff at the front desk did not put on a mask, despite speaking to the health inspector within a distance of two metres, and there was no physical barrier at the front desk. Both activities “could contribute to the spread of COVID-19,” the executive order said. The shop was immediately ordered closed by the inspector.
Personal services including body, nose and ear piercing and tattoos are not permitted in Alberta as of Sunday due to public health orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
