A second COVID-19 outbreak was confirmed Saturday at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Met Campus.
Karen Riddell, vice-president of critical care, cardiology, stroke, trauma and clinical support, said five patients from the 6th floor North unit (6N) at Met Campus have tested positive in the last four days and are considered hospital-acquired cases.
Riddell said in a news release that all patients on the unit were tested Friday, while unit staff are in the process of being tested. To date, no staff related to 6N have been identified as positive for COVID-19, he said.
“As previously stated, we expect to experience these situations as COVID-19 continues to spread in our community,” Riddell said. “We continue to remain vigilant in taking the correct precautions to reduce the opportunity for spread of the COVID-19 virus by following infection prevention and control guidelines to the best of our ability.”
All patients are being tested for COVID-19 before admission into hospital, whether they are symptomatic or not.
