The motion didn’t pass. It was blocked by a 6-5 vote with the mayor breaking the tie.
Councillors in favour of the location argued that no matter where you locate a hospital you will have someone opposing. They said we need this hospital now, we’re not prepared to wait.
They claimed our hospitals are crumbling, even though last December, 2019, Accreditation Canada awarded Windsor hospitals an “exemplary standing.”
The mayor spoke in support of the location, noting the hospital is also for county residents, even though three-quarters of the county population live north of County Road 42.
Opponents have presented many reasons why this location is not feasible. Yet, councillors and others in favour have not given any logic as to why this is an adequate hospital site.
By not fighting for what we truly deserve, not putting forth effort to get what we really need — a new acute care hospital in the right location — can only be described as lazy government.
