‘Christmas Star’ To Appear Tonight
The ‘Christmas Star’ will shine upon us all tonight for a rare celestial event that has not taken place in over 800 years.
Dubai Astronomy Group has announced that the Christmas Star will be visible to the naked eye for about two hours, from 5.30pm around sunset to 7pm.
The great conjunction, where Saturn and Jupiter will be in near alignment and will shine bright in the sky will take place today.
These planets have not been this close in proximity in about 400 years.
As the winter solstice, which is the longest night of the year, coincidentally happens to fall today, the planets crossing paths will be visible to all.
According to NASA, you need to find an open space with the view of the sky. An hour after sunset, look to the southwestern sky. Jupiter will look like a bright star and be easily visible. Saturn will be slightly fainter and will appear slightly above and to the left of Jupiter until December 21, when Jupiter will overtake it and they will reverse positions in the sky.
They also mentioned that if you use binoculars or telescope, you will be able to see the planets orbiting Jupiter.
