“It’s a disappointing day for us,” Belichick said.
RAMS LAY BIGGEST EGG IN YEARS
The New York Jets’ uninterrupted string of goose eggs got interrupted by the biggest egg laid by a (well, supposed) top-tier NFL team in years.
By the Los Angeles Rams.
All the 9-4 Rams had to do to stay even with the Seattle Seahawks at 10-4 atop the NFC West was defeat the 0-13 New York Jets. In Los Angeles, no less.
And they couldn’t. The Jets won 23-20 and deserved to win. They led by at least two scores for much of the game, so it was no fluke.
Now, if you’re a Jets fan you’re probably miffed — miffed that your team lost, and thereby no longer is in line to secure the No. 1 overall draft pick, universally forecast to be Clemson University quarterback Trevor Lawrence, perhaps a generational phenom.
By upsetting the heavily favoured Rams, the Jets improved to 1-13 — the same record now as the Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost 40-14 at Baltimore. Should both the Jets and Jags finish tied with the worst record, the No. 1 overall draft pick would go to the team with the worst strength of schedule. Which with two weeks to go projects to be the Jaguars, not the Jets.
That’s why it’s quite possible New York’s win on Sunday was cheered by the fewest percentage of participating teams’ fans of any game in the league’s 101-season history.
On Twitter, Jets fans were even mad at Rams QB Jared Goff! He got outplayed Sunday by counterpart Sam Darnold.
The Jets’ doomed head coach Adam Gase was unapologetic, as he and his players should be: “Hey, our job is to go out and win every week.”
