Pokémon Go trainers will soon be able to enjoy what may be the final event of the year: the Holiday Event, which gives players access to more Ice types, along with a new Pokémon that’s making its debut.
This year’s Holiday Event will see the debut of Vanillite in Pokémon Go, as well as week-long bonuses to help trainers get enough experience points to reach that highly coveted Level 40 before the end of the year.
Here’s everything you need to know about the 2020 Holiday Event in Pokémon Go:
POKEMON GO HOLIDAY EVENT START TIME
The Pokémon Go Holiday Event will run from Tuesday, December 22, from 8 a.m. to Thursday, December 31, at 10 p.m. local time.
VANILLITE DEBUT
The Ice-type Pokémon Vanillite and its evolutions Vanillish and Vanilluxe will make their Pokémon Go debuts during the Holiday Event. Being a three-stage evolution, Vanillite could be a welcome addition to any Pokémon Go team looking for a strong Ice-type.
Vanillite will be appearing in the wild, hatching from 5km Eggs, and as a reward for the exclusive field research.
POKEMON GO FIELD RESEARCH
According to the official Pokémon Go blog, this event’s exclusive field research will give trainers a chance at catching Vanillite and the rare Ice-type Pokémon, Cryogonal.

IN-GAME BONUSES
During the Holiday Event, Pikachu, Delibird and Cubchoo will appear in Pokémon Go wearing holiday-themed costumes. Try and catch these special Pokémon to add to your collection.
Aside from those Pokémon, Spheal, Snover, Vanillite and more will appear more frequently in the wild. Seel, Swinub, Smoochum, Snorunt, Snover and Vanillite will be hatching from 5km Eggs.
The Raids will update with the start of the Holiday Event and will include Alolan Sandshrew, Dewgong, Jynx, Sneasel, Swinub, Walrein, Cubchoo and Cryogonal. Jynx will also have its Shiny form appear more frequently in these Raids.
Mega Abomasnow will also appear in Mega Raids, to add to the Ice-type theme.
Pokémon Go will also have special bonuses that trainers can enjoy during the following times:
- December 22 at 8 a.m. to December 31 at 10 p.m. local time – Number of gifts you can open increased to 45, the number of gifts you can carry will increase to 40
- December 22 at 12 a.m. to December 23 at 11:59 p.m. local time – Double Raid XP
- December 24 at 12 a.m. to December 25 at 11:59 p.m. local time – Double Catch Candy
- December 26 at 12 a.m. to December 27 at 12:59 p.m. local time – Double Star Piece duration
- December 28 at 12 a.m. to December 29 at 11:59 p.m. local time – Double Lucky Egg duration
- December 30 at 12 a.m. to December 31 at 11:59 p.m. local time – Double Catch Stardust
SPECIAL WINTER WEEKEND EVENT
During the final weekend of 2020, Pokémon Go will have a special Winter Weekend Event alongside the actual Holiday Event, starting Saturday, December 26, at 8 a.m. and ending Sunday, December 27, at 10 p.m. local time.
Regice will return to raids during the weekend; event-exclusive AR Mapping task rewards will also appear, to help trainers earn extra Incense and more; and more Ice-type Pokémon—like Delibird, Snorutn, Spheal, Snover, Cryogonal and Cubchoo—will be attracted to trainers who use Incense more frequently.
