An investigation into the home by SCAN investigators began in April after several complaints from the community regarding drug use, drug trafficking and alleged criminal activity at the property.
Meanwhile, the local police service had been responding to incidents at the property since September 2018. Over two years, they responded to several noise complaints between midnight and early in the morning, in addition to more serious incidents such as a stabbing and home invasion.
Last December, a police search warrant resulted in the seizure of property.
SCAN substantiated the complaints about drug activity and, on Monday, obtained the community safety order against the property’s owner. The home is for sale but must remain vacant during the three-month closure, unless Sheriffs grant the owner and realtor access.
Alberta’s SCAN unit has investigated more than 5,800 properties since its inception in 2008, issuing more than 90 community safety orders. They said most complaints are resolved in conjunction with property owners.
