Mutation in coronavirus not likely to affect vaccine development: CSIR DG
Amid concerns about a new coronavirus variant found in the United Kingdom (UK), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Director-General Dr Shekhar Mande on Tuesday said that the mutation in the coronavirus will not affect vaccine development as vaccine invokes the overall immunity of the body. He said people should be cautious as scientists in the UK have said that the new strain is more transmissible.

- After the new strain of coronavirus found in the UK, people with recent travel history to the United Kingdom are now quarantined and COVID-19 test results are awaited, according to the official, on Tuesday.
- “Five persons with recent travel history to the United Kingdom have been quarantined. Their swabs have been collected and results are awaited”, said Nitesh Patil, deputy commissioner Dharwad district.
- Earlier today, a person had tested COVID-19 positive after arriving from the UK in Karnataka. The person is kept under observation by the authorities.

Kerala Health Minister holds meeting amid concerns over new coronavirus strain
- A high-level meeting chaired by Kerala health minister KK Shailaja was held on Tuesday in the backdrop of the new strain of coronavirus reported in the UK.
- This new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus is known to be 70% more contagious than the prevalent Covid-19.
- In addition, studies are underway to determine the severity of the new virus. Kerala was the first state to report Covid-19 in the country.
- The meeting was convened to assess the current spread of the virus and to strengthen preventive measures and treatment in the context of the new strain of coronavirus.

- Madhya Pradesh recorded 1,005 new coronavirus cases and 12 fatalities on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.
