Tuesday, 12 a.m. – State of emergency extended for British Columbia
B.C.’s state of emergency declaration has been extended through to end of day on Jan. 5, 2021.
“I want to thank everyone in British Columbia for doing their part to keep themselves and their loved ones safe during this extraordinarily trying year,” said Premier John Horgan.
“With more British Columbians receiving vaccines, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But immunization won’t happen overnight. Through the holiday season and into the new year, we need to continue following public health orders and take the daily actions we know will protect those around us.”
The state of emergency was first declared on March 18, 2020.
Tuesday, 3:55 p.m. – 444 new cases, 12 additional deaths
B.C. health officials reported an additional 444 more new cases COVID-19 on Tuesday, and 21 more deaths linked to the disease.
There are been a total 7,510 cases in British Columbia since the start of the pandemic.
The death toll from COVID-19 has climbed to 777 in B.C.
There are 61 active outbreaks in health-care facilities, including the two most recent ones at a rehabilitation unit at the Laurel Place long-term care facility in Surrey and at a further acute-care unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, while a new community outbreak has been identified at Highline Farms in the Fraser Health region.
