Rep. Ilhan Omar accused the Biden team of pulling a “bait and switch” and breaking promises when officials said it would take time to reverse President Trump’s immigration policies.
Susan Rice, Biden’s pick to lead the White House Domestic Policy Council, said in a recent interview that it would “take time” to reverse Trump’s border policies.
“The president-elect is committed to restoring and respecting our asylum laws, including at the border, and many of the outgoing Administration’s policies will be immediately reversed,” Rice explained.
“Others will take time to implement, and the situation at the border will not change overnight.”
Like a petulant child, Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has no patience for the slow reversal of immigration policies. Instead, she wants immediate open borders.
“This is a classic bait and switch,” she tweeted. “It perpetuates Trump’s dehumanization of migrants and breaks a core campaign promise. Democrats lose big when administrations won’t fulfill their promise. I urge the Biden transition team to reconsider this position.”
Though saying some reversals of policy would take time, Rice did commit to “addressing it in full.”

Ilhan Omar: Reversing Trump’s Immigration Policies Needs to Happen ASAP
To be clear, Ilhan Omar isn’t displeased with the position of the Biden team’s immigration policy reversal, she’s just bothered by the speed it would take to come to fruition.
But there is plenty to keep her happy, almost as if she’s simply a foil to make it seem like Biden’s extreme platforms won’t look so extreme in the end.
President-elect Biden has already made it quite clear that one of his first priorities upon entering office is to grant citizenship to over 11 million illegal immigrants.
“I’m going to make a commitment in the first 100 days, I will send an immigration bill to the United States Senate with a pathway to citizenship for over 11 million undocumented people in America,” Biden vowed during an NBC interview last month.

Ilhan Omar would also be pleased by a Politico report from two weeks ago which shows Biden plans to hire a “high-ranking” official at the Department of Justice (DOJ) whose sole job and focus will be to systematically undo President Trump’s immigration reforms.
A Bloomberg News piece indicates migrant caravans are forming in Central America and are heading for the border in the coming weeks, convinced that they’ll be able to enter the United States.
Rice countered that idea in her interview with La Vanguardia.
“Migrants and asylum seekers should not at all believe the people in the region who are selling the idea that the border will suddenly be wide open to process everyone on the first day,” she said. “It will not be so.”
Which is exactly what she’s been programmed to say.
The Bloomberg report notes that the Biden administration wants to keep their open-border policies on the down-low.
“Biden’s advisers are hoping to shift away from Trump’s policies without signaling that the border has been flung open, according to people familiar with the planning,” it reads.
What else is striking abt Biden team’s language from interview? (2) Asylum officers will adjudicate claims. This is on the progressive wish-list. It’s a practical and humane way to give people speedier relief and take pressure off of a beleaguered immigration court system. 5/

Still, any effort to hasten the immigration policy reversals will take time due to the President’s forethought on the matter.
The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) indicates Trump’s method of implementing immigration reforms was intentionally designed to make it difficult to undo.
“Through bold, sweeping changes as well as less-noted technical adjustments, the Trump administration has dramatically reshaped the U.S. immigration system since entering office in January 2017,” they write.

“Much of the White House’s immigration agenda has been realized in the form of interlocking measures, with regulatory, policy, and programmatic changes driving towards shared policy goals,” MPI reports.
“Though these largely administrative actions could, in theory, be undone by a future administration, this layered approach, coupled with the rapid-fire pace of change, makes it likely that the Trump presidency will have long-lasting effects on the U.S. immigration system.”

Omar’s Distrust of Biden Is Obvious
Ilhan Omar’s distrust of the incoming administration is rather obvious and doesn’t solely apply to immigration reform.
During a CNN interview last week, the Minnesota Democrat argued that progressives were not being given a big enough seat at the table within a prospective Biden cabinet.

Omar has suggested she and her fellow ‘Squad’ members have given President-elect Biden a “to-do list” with which they would like to see him use executive orders to implement.
One of those items includes a wish to “reinstate the ‘temporary protected status’ for immigrants cut off by President Donald Trump.”
Anyone here think she won’t get exactly what she wants out of Biden?
