A luxury home sale on Vancouver’s Point Grey Road is Metro Vancouver’s most expensive sale recorded on MLS in over three years.
The 108-year-old mansion at 3019 Point Grey Road sold last Friday for $27 million. The buyers are local, according to Realtor Daniel Tan. The deal is firm and will complete in the new year.
The six-bedroom, five-bathroom, waterfront Kitsilano mansion might ring a bell, for many. In January, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were linked to the house by British tabloids, who turned a tongue-in-cheek prediction from a Postmedia reporter into a hot tip. These UK tabloid reports were then repeated by B.C.-based media, then international media, in a bizarre feedback loop that only ignited interest in a home that Meghan Markle never toured.
Multiple prospective buyers toured the property in the weeks following all that media attention, Tan said.
The influence of the COVID-19 pandemic is significant as well. This particular property was originally listed for $35,880,000, but with the luxury home market on a downward trajectory and after 427 days on the market, the seller’s bottom line began to move.
