The McGill University Health Centre has transferred 11 adult patients to the Montreal Children’s Hospital, including into the pediatric intensive-care unit, to ease the strain caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the MUHC announced Wednesday.
Each of the patients were post-operative and came from the Royal Victoria Hospital, the MUHC said.
“Our adult MUHC colleagues are running full tilt and relocating staff significantly to care for so many sick adults,” Robert Barnes, associate director of professional services at the children’s hospital, said in a statement. “The pandemic is not letting up. Just like during the first wave in the spring, we at the Children’s want to contribute to the cause as best we can. Our fellow Quebecers will do their part by reducing the spread of this virus.”
Since September, the MUHC has seen 337 patients with COVID-19 compared to 578 in the first wave, the statement said.
