Wednesday, 3 p.m. – B.C. health officials share latest figures on COVID-19 in B.C.
Provincial Health officials confirmed another 518 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, and 19 new deaths.
The update from Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix sees total cases climbs to 48,027, and total deaths increase to 796.
5,603 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine to date, and that number is set to increase dramatically in the coming months as the Moderna vaccine has been approved for use in Canada, Henry announced.
Wednesday, 1 p.m. – More than 550,000 applications approved for BC Recovery Benefit
More than 550,000 applications have been approved to date for the B.C. Recovery Benefit.
According to Minister of Finance Selina Robinson, a total of 554,079 applications had been approved as of Tuesday evening for the one-time, tax free payment intended to help British Columbians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of those, 291,863 were individuals, 34,115 were single parents, and 228,101 were couples or families.
“Thanks to the public service for getting such a large program up and running so quickly and to British Columbians for their patience,” said Robinson in a Twitter post sharing the latest figures.
