Huge explosion in downtown Nashville.mp4
A large explosion ripped through part of downtown Nashville early on Christmas morning.
The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management told local broadcaster News 2 that a parked RV exploded and damaged several surrounding buildings.
Three people were injured. Police believe that the explosion was intentional.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are investigating alongside local authorities.
Police responded to report of gunfire
ABC News reports that the initial call to the Nashville police reported gunfire. Police confirmed there was no gunfire in the area, but did discover the RV. Noticing something suspicious about the vehicle they alerted the bomb squad.
A Department of Justice spokesperson said that it had been instructed to make “all DOJ resources available to assist in the investigation.”

Raw footage from immediately after the blast shows the intensity of the damage on the immediate area. An injured person can be heard calling for help.
Nashville police reportedly began sweeping nearby apartments prior to explosion and were blown to the ground.

Trump briefed on explosion
Donald Trump has been briefed on the explosion in Nashville according to Judd Deere, deputy White House press secretary.
He will be updated regularly throughout the day.
The president is currently on the golf course in West Palm Beach with Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Former FBI director says scale of damage indicates large device
Former FBI director Andrew McCabe, appearing on CNN, says that while reports of an RV exploding might make people think of an accidental explosion of a propane tank or cooking fuel, the scale of the damage indicates a large device.
However, the timing and location of the device points toward minimising casualties by setting it off on a quiet street early on a holiday.
Mr McCabe would not speculate on whether a domestic or international group might be responsible.

Local resident: ‘All my windows, every single one of them got blown into the next room’
Buck McCoy, who lives near the area, told The Associated Press: “All my windows, every single one of them got blown into the next room. If I had been standing there it would have been horrible,” he said.
“It felt like a bomb. It was that big,” he said. “There were about four cars on fire. I don’t know if it was so hot they just caught on fire, and the trees were all blown apart.”

Downtown Nashville largely closed off
A 10-block radius around the site of the explosion on 2nd Avenue and Commerce in downtown Nashville has been closed off by police as the investigation continues.
Speaking to the press on Friday morning Mayor John Cooper said at least 20 buildings had been damaged.
