Premier Doug Ford had sharp words Wednesday about his embattled finance minister’s Christmas pandemic vacation in St. Barts.
Ford was at Trillium Health for a photo-op of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines being distributed to Peel Public Health. While there, Ford addressed the controversy swirling around Rod Phillips, who has been vacationing in the Caribbean since Dec. 13.
“I’m very upset — I’m very frustrated with the situation,” Ford said.
“I stand out here every single day and tell people to stay at home. People are losing their businesses. We’re locking things down. And it’s unacceptable that anyone, any elected official, myself included, or anyone that gets off, ignores the rules and goes down to an island.”
Phillips admitted Tuesday he and his wife jetted south to St. Barts for Christmas vacation on Dec. 13 — shirking strong advice from his own government to break traditions and routines and stay home for the holidays due to spiking COVID-19 cases.
