Sept. 16, 2020 — Vancouver — No names released
Just after 7 p.m., Vancouver Police officers were called to the Astoria Hotel where two people were found unresponsive in a room. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died at hospital.
Sept. 7, 2020 — Vancouver — Neil Scarisbrick, 37
Scarisbrick died in the Downtown Eastside after being punched near Hastings and Columbia streets. Investigators believe that the victim and suspect are known to each other.
Aug. 6, 2020 — Vancouver — Jeff Strom, 64
Strom, a Vancouver resident, was assaulted near East Cordova and Dunlevy streets around 5:30 p.m. He was transported to hospital with serious injuries. He later died of his injuries. James Frederick Fierheller, of no fixed address, was initially arrested for assault causing bodily harm. But the charge was later upgraded to manslaughter.
July 27, 2020 — Vancouver — Thomus Donaghy, 41
Donaghy, an overdose prevention worker, was stabbed to death outside of the Overdose Prevention Site at St. Paul’s Hospital. The following month, Maximus Roland Hayes, 23, charged with manslaughter in Donaghy’s death.
July 13, 2020 — Vancouver — Amin Shahin Shakur, 30
Shakur was shot to death near his business at Main Street and East 48th Avenue just after 11 p.m. Police said at the time that Shakur “does not have an extensive police history.”
July 7, 2020 — Vancouver — Dennis Wragg, 72 and Paul Tonks, 68
The bodies of Wragg and Tonks were found dead inside a home at 1768 East 11th Ave. just after 12:30 a.m. A Dodge minivan believed to be involved in the incident was recovered on a forest service road near Ryder Lake in Chilliwack. Joseph Holland, 43, was arrested a day later in Harrison Hot Springs and charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
