The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported a whopping 272 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases and eight more deaths Thursday.
It is the highest single-day case increase the region has ever recorded.
Statistics show 10.2 per cent of tests being performed are coming back positive.
Windsor and Essex County’s total number of cases to date is 7,646 and the grim death total stands at 137. Since March 1, 5,576 cases have been resolved.
Of the new cases reported, 46 are outbreak related, three are the result of close contact with another person with a confirmed case and 223 are still being investigated.
Seven of the eight deaths were people living in a long-term care residence. They include a man and a woman in their 60s, a man in his 70s, a man in his 80s and three men in their 90s.
The final death was a man in his 60s who lived in the general community.
Currently there are 100 people with the virus in hospital, 15 of those are in ICU.
