A 14-year-old skier died Wednesday afternoon on the ski hill at Ski Bromont, 75 kilometres east of Montreal.
“A loss of control was the cause of a fall that was fatal for the 14-year-old boy,” Bromont announced on its Facebook page. “The mountain is mourning.”
Ski patrollers were called at 1:34 p.m. to care for the boy who suffered a severe fall in the Varennes sector of the ski hill, said spokesperson Hélène Bélisle, adding that the hill in question was of low difficulty.
Paramedics were called to the scene, and the boy was brought to a hospital where his death was confirmed, Bélisle said.
She said Bromont was unaware of the skier’s skills or what exactly caused the fall.
“Management and employees are overwhelmed by this news,” she said.
Bromont police have begun an investigation to determine what happened.
