CHCIAGO (CBS) — Chicago police Friday found seven kids underneath the age of 14 in a vacant dwelling in East Garfield Park.
Officers responded to a name of a verify of effectively being after a constructing supervisor checked on the residence within the 700 block of North Trumbull Avenue shortly earlier than 4 p.m. and located the youngsters in a primary flooring residence that will in any other case have been vacant, police mentioned.
Inside police found a 14-year-old lady, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old lady, a 4-year-old lady, a 5-year-old boy, and a 23-mont-old child.
The first flooring unit has been vacant for a while. That is why the constructing supervisor was shocked to listen to a commotion inside. When he went to open the door he found a whole household.
The kids had been residing within the unit. It doesn’t seem they had been deserted, as a 31-year-old girl, consider to be their mom or a relative, was residing within the vacant residence, too.
All seven had been taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in good situation.
The 31-year-old girl was being questioned Friday evening.
The household’s case illustrates the exhausting instances so many are dealing with locally, says Pastor Donovan Price.
“In these times there’s probably even more people living like that,” Price mentioned. “Just trying to survive trying to keep her children together. It’s very sad. People don’t know you can call 311 for many resources. We can always say they should have done this or that, but you never know what you’re going to do in that situation other than hold on. And that’s what this mother was doing. Some people just need a hand up.”
It is unclear if there was any warmth within the vacant residence.
Child Protective Services is now concerned. The mom was not dealing with any legal costs Friday evening.
