The Montreal police force reported that as of 6 a.m. Friday, there had been no major infractions in its territory on New Year’s Eve.
The SPVM had previously reported that its officers issued 34 tickets during the week of Christmas, 10 times fewer than the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Gatineau, police arrested and fined a man after breaking up a New Year’s Eve party, according to TVA Nouvelles. Six police officers responded to a citizen’s complaint regarding a house on Le Baron St at 11:10 p.m.. The incident was captured on video by one of the people in the house showing what appeared to be a man resisting arrest and being pulled out of the house by the officers.
The video was posted on social media. The Gatineau police department is expected to release a statement about the incident on Monday.
Several New Year’s Eve gatherings in Quebec City led that city’s police force to issue 52 tickets, including 46 for violation of public health regulations.
