A total of 45 Montreal transit workers tested positive for COVID-19 during the Christmas holidays, the Société de Transport de Montréal said Sunday.
Those infected included 26 bus drivers, two métro operators, two métro ticket agents, five maintenance workers, three managers and seven office workers, of whom five were working from home.
Half (22) were infected outside the STM, three were infected at work and for 20 of those infected, it was not known where they were infected.
The STM said all the proper safety measures had been taken to prevent contagion.
“The situation is very well managed by our teams on the ground. We continue to follow the rules, as we have since the beginning of the pandemic, and we are supervising everything daily with public health authorities,” it said in a statement.
The absence of the 45 employees, who work in 23 different locations, did not affect operations, it said.
The STM has 11,000 employees working in more than 100 locations, including the 68 métro stations.
