Abbotsford police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by three vehicles on Highway 1 early Sunday morning.
Around 4:15 a.m., paramedics were called to the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 near the Abbotsford-Langley border.
First responders at the scene located a man in the eastbound lanes who had been hit by three different cars. The man’s injuries were severe and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are now working to identify the man and his next-of-kin.
All three drivers involved in the collision remained at the scene and are cooperating with police.
“The drivers did not sustain any injuries and are very shaken by this incident,” said Const. Jody Thomas in a news release.
Collision investigators and the B.C. Coroners Service were at the scene as of 8 a.m. Sunday to determine what led to the collision.
Highway 1 was closed between 264th Street and Mt. Lehman Road for the morning but has since reopened as of 11 a.m.
Police are asking anyone who travelled eastbound on Highway 1 on Sunday morning, and who may have dashboard camera footage, to contact investigators at 604-859-5225 and cite file 2021-246.
