MoCCAE To Ensure Food Safety In The UAE
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has set out to ensure that food sourced, both locally and internationally, is to follow high standards of safety in the UAE.
MoCCAE noted that food safety is monitored by the accreditation of slaughterhouses exporting meat and meat products to the UAE, and by ensuring they are halal products. Organisations overseas have been entrusted to ensure that they are halal.
In situations where the reports issued by overseas entities, or by the border inspection team, demonstrate the slaughterhouse’s failure to adhere to the health or halal requirements, the ministry immediately revokes its accreditation.
The list of halal-accredited slaughterhouses in each country and the types of products they are allowed to export to the UAE are constantly updated and are published on the ministry’s website.
Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment said, “We aim to boost the UAE’s position as a regional and global trade hub for food products through applying the highest standards of food safety to locally produced and imported foods. In addition to keeping food-borne diseases at bay, our food safety controls and measures boost the competitiveness of food products exported and re-exported by the UAE.”
