Claude Julien and Canadiens goaltending coach Stéphane Waite have a plan for Jake Allen but they’re not going to share the information.
“I don’t want to share our plan because things happen during the season and the plan you’ve shared changes,” Julien said on a video conference call Thursday. “We have looked at the schedule and made sort of a plan (but) there could be injuries, a goaltender gets hot or he’s struggling. But we want to give Carey a rest and Jake is gong to play his fair share of games.
“We want to make sure Carey is fresh and you’re not going to see a situation where Carey Price plays 45 of the 56 games and Jake plays 11,” Julien said.
Allen, who allowed only one goal during two periods of action in Thursday’s intrasquad game, said the coaching staff hasn’t shared its plan with him, but the 30-year-old has been both a starter and a backup in his NHL career and knows his job is to be ready whenever he gets the call.
