The tech tyrants came after Parler with a vengeance. Apple and Google have refused to carry the platform as a downloadable app, and Amazon has gone one step further by denying the fledgling platform access to its servers.
“Amazon on Saturday kicked Parler off its Web hosting services.” Buzzfeed reported Jan. 9.
“Amazon’s suspension of Parler’s account means that unless it can find another host, once the ban takes effect on Sunday Parler will go offline,” the article explained further.
Two other Big Tech companies took similar action. “Google has suspended Parler from the Play Store, according to a statement given to Politico reporter Cristiano Lima. New York Times reporter Jack Nicas corroborated Google’s suspension of the app,” The Verge reported Jan. 8.
Buzzfeed added that “On Saturday afternoon, Apple banned Parler from its App Store after the platform failed to introduce a moderation plan to protect public safety.” Buzzfeed claimed to have viewed a copy of an email sent from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Trust and Safety team to Parler Chief Policy Officer Amy Peikoff which read:
“Recently, we’ve seen a steady increase in this violent content on your website, all of which violates our terms. It’s clear that Parler does not have an effective process to comply with the AWS terms of service.”
This comes after the “Amazon Employees For Climate Justice” group published a shrill demand that the company’s leadership do whatever it can to get Parler wiped off the internet.
Amazon is owned by the world’s second-richest man Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post.“Enough is enough. Amazon hosts Parler on [Amazon Web Services],” Amazon Employees For Climate Justice declared Jan. 9 before demanding:
“As Amazon workers, we demand Amazon deny Parler services until it removes posts inciting violence, including at the Presidential inauguration.
“We cannot be complicit in more bloodshed and violent attacks on our democracy.”
Conservatives are under attack. Call up Amazon at 1 (888) 280-4331 and demand that it not discriminate against free speech. If you have been censored, contact us at the Media Research Center contact form, and help us hold Big Tech accountable.
