NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The NYPD says an officer shot a man armed with a knife inside a Queens home Friday night.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. in Maspeth.
NYPD Chief Terence Monahan says officers were sent to a home on 64th Street after receiving a call about a 41-year-old man who was hallucinating and armed with a knife.
Officers entered the home and went into the basement, where they found the man with a family member.

Monahan says four officers spent about 10 minutes speaking to the man, trying to convince him to go to the hospital.
“He abruptly pulled out a large knife and yelled, ‘I’m not going back to the hospital,’” Monahan said.
The man then allegedly lunged toward an officer.
“It was at this time one of the officers deployed a taser, striking the male, and almost simultaneously, an additional officer fired two rounds from his service weapon, striking the male twice as he continued advancing towards the officer,” Monahan said.
The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Monahan says different officers had been sent to the same house around 10:50 a.m. for a report that the same man was hallucinating. Those officers say the man told them he had been using crystal meth.
At that time, the man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, but he was later released and returned home with a family member.
Officers had also been sent to the same home Wednesday for a report the same man was hallucinating.
According to Monahan, the officers’ body cameras were activated Friday evening and the footage will be reviewed.
The officers are said to be OK.
