UAE To Open Borders To Qatar
The UAE is set to open all sea, land and air borders with Qatar, following a three and a half year closure.
The 41st Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit that took place in Saudi Arabia, saw Middle Eastern countries resolve their issues with Qatar by signing the Al Ula declaration.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt has since opened their air, land and sea borders with Qatar.
The UAE delegation was led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and and Ruler of Dubai.
Muhammad Al Bakri, International Air Transport Association’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East said, “The reopening of airspace with Qatar by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Egypt is welcome news for the region, passengers and the aviation industry during these very difficult times. It will permit the resumption of direct flights between these countries and Qatar, eliminating complex transit travel itineraries that saw typical journey times increase from under an hour to over five hours in some cases. The agreement will facilitate the transportation of COVID-19 vaccines globally given the region’s strategic location.”
