Golden State was up by double digits most of the evening it seemed, until Toronto found its legs and its shooting strokes and some added defensive energy in the final 12 minutes.
Toronto was down 15 going into the fourth and then flipped the switch suddenly rebounding like demons, shooting much better than it had everywhere but the free throw line and just digging in like it did for all of that second half in the win over Sacramento on Wednesday.
It turned out to be too little, too late as the comeback stalled in a 106-105 loss.
The Raptors still needed a stop as the Warriors gained possession with 7.7 seconds remaining and the Raptors clinging to a one-point lead.
Lowry fouled Damion Lee who went to the line and made both free throws after the foul was confirmed on replay.
That still left the Raptors 4.4 seconds coming out of a timeout to steal this game.
Siakam got a good look from the top of the key on a spin move but could not get it to fall.
Siakam led the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds while the backcourt of Lowry and VanVleet combined for 38 points and 14 assists.
The Raptors bench, so strong just a game earlier, struggled all night. Chris Boucher had a strong 15 off the bench but fouled out with a few minutes left in the game after playing most of the night in foul trouble.
POWELL GET THE START
Nick Nurse had another change to his starting lineup last night and it wasn’t just the return of Lowry.
Yes, Lowry was back from a one-game absence for personal reasons, but remaining in the starting five even with Lowry back was Norm Powell.
That meant a small lineup with OG Anunoby and Siakam at 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-7 the biggest Raptors on the floor.
