I am truly disappointed in Mayor Drew Dilkens’ actions recently by not adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
Windsor-Essex County is one of the main virus hotspots in Ontario, so it is extremely important that as a community we consistently make sure we are properly following protocols.
Everyone must do their part to prevent the spread of the virus, but especially our mayor. He needs to be a role model for our community and should not be pardoned from current protocols.
Our mayor’s actions at a whiskey launch dinner on Nov. 18th were unacceptable and he should have been punished and made an example of for all others who break protocols in our community.
Although he did make a monetary donation in the amount of the fine to a charity, this shows the public our mayor faced little consequences for a poor example of leadership.
Some in the public may start to believe they can also break COVID-19 protocols with little or no consequences. Adherence to the protocols will be essential during the upcoming holiday season.
In order to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we must follow proper procedures and when people in our community break the protocols we must hold them accountable.
