Calgary hair salon decides against defying health orders
A Calgary hair salon and spa has reconsidered its defiance against provincial health orders to remain closed during the province’s lockdown.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, True You Salon in Midnapore said it was considering opening today “to shed light on our industry, to shed light on the double standards that have been put in place & to make it known that many more small businesses will close forever if we don’t act now, but still in a safe & respectful manner. ”
However, in another post today, the salon said it would open Monday at noon, “but not in the manner you may think.”
The business said it would open only to sell retail goods and to “chat hair (and) to reconnect with our guests”; services would not be provided.
“Our TRUE intention here is to have salons open again, to have tattoo shops open again, for gyms to reopen, for personal trainers to get back to work, for ALL small businesses to open their doors & to be given the same opportunity the big box stores have had.”
Last week Premier Jason Kenney announced that public-health restrictions will extend at least until Jan. 21. Businesses such as hair salons, barbers, tattoo shops and nail shops are prohibited from offering personal services.
