Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), has called for Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) to be put on the no-fly list in the aftermath of the Capitol protests that turned violent last week.
Democrats have used last week’s violent protests in Washington D.C. to demonize Republicans and accuse President Trump of inciting a riot.
Thompson chairs the Homeland Security Committee and believes there should be consequences for the two Senators, who raised objections about certifying the 2020 presidential election on the same day as the protests.
BREAKING
House Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said there is “no question” that Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) could find themselves on the no-fly list if they incited insurrection: “A terrorist is a terrorist.” https://t.co/QYb6khmpq0

Democrats Want Punishment, No-Fly List For Senators Cruz And Hawley
During an interview on Monday, Thompson said, “There are ethics charges that can be brought against those individuals, and people are looking at all of this. What Senator Hawley did and what Senator Cruz did was horrible.”
Congressman Thompson also says that the Congressional Black Caucus will hold a hearing on Wednesday in order to begin an investigation into what happened during the protests last week.
Thompson said this would be independent of other investigations. “We believe that a double standard existed on the 6th of January. We want to know why so that-obviously we do know why.”
“But somebody’s gonna have to tell us why is occurred other than the fact that there were White people involved and you treat White protesters with kid gloves and Black and White protesters with… You throw the full face and power of the government on them to suppress them. It oughta be one policy.”

Cruz and Hawley are also getting some pushback from a fellow Senator.
Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), has not only called for possible expulsion, but also for Ron Johnson (R-WI) for what is being portrayed as inciting the violence by raising objections to certifying the presidential election.

Several large corporations who are often donors to Republican candidates and causes have pulled their support for Republican Lawmakers. Among those cited, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Marriott International, and Commerce Bancshares.

But being put on a no-fly list is not enough. Law students from both Yale and Harvard Law Schools, alma maters of Hawley and Cruz respectively, have called for their disbarment.

In addition to the threat of being put on a no-fly list, it is possible that both Senators may face a vote on a censure resolution with some fellow Republicans joining in, including Sen Mitt Romney (R-UT), and Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb).
As of today, Missouri House Democrats filed a resolution encouraging Sen. Hawley to resign.
