Ontario is reporting 2,961 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as new infections remain below 3,000 for the second straight day.
The new cases are a slight rise from the 2,903 infections reported the previous day.
Prior to Tuesday, the daily cases surpassed 3,000 for eight straight days.
The latest update comes as the province issued a state of emergency and stay-at-home order, which goes into effect 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
An additional 74 people have died from the virus, the highest number of fatalities reported in almost a week. That brings the total number of deaths across the province to 5,127.
