A man on trial at the Laval courthouse testified in his his own defence on Wednesday and claimed he was not seeking to hire an underage escort when he was arrested in a police sting operation two years ago.
Vincent-Alexandre Brodeur, 45, of Terrebonne, laughed out loud twice while on the witness stand as he tried to convince the jury hearing his case that, while he was indeed seeking to have sex with an escort on June 7, 2018, he never asked that the prostitute be a minor.
Brodeur admitted he had used the services of escorts several times before his arrest. He laughed twice when his testimony touched on how many hoops he had to jump through on the day in question to set up an appointment while communicating with a woman who turned out to be an undercover Laval police officer.
The woman told Brodeur she was not an escort but that she could set him up with one.
He testified that, before 10 a.m. that morning, he did a Google search for online escort ads and consulted one that claimed to offer services from three different escorts. While he testified, Brodeur often referred to the escorts he saw in the ads as “girls,” but he denied repeatedly that he asked to have sex with someone under the age of 18.
