Chelsea are planning a club-record swoop to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to The Athletic.
The 20-year-old striker has been truly sensational so far, his ability being matched only by his consistency and desire to score goals. This season, he has netted 19 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions – a magnificent output. His exploits have expectedly earned him much attention from top clubs around Europe.
Chelsea spent heavily on attacking reinforcements last summer, signing Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen. However, they are now preparing to break the bank for Haaland.
Haaland’s release clause, set at €75 million, does not kick in before the summer of 2022, but the Blues aren’t prepared to wait that long and want him at Stamford Bridge this year, which means they’ll likely have to pay much more than that, with Dortmund obviously reluctant to part ways with their top star.
