The restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are “absolutely” making a difference, he said.
One additional COVID-19 death was reported on Monday: a woman in her 90s who lived in a retirement home.
Over the weekend, the health unit reported the deaths of seven others. Three lived in long-term care and retirement homes: a man in his 70s, a man in his 80s, and a woman in her 90s.
A man in his 70s, a man in his 80s, and two men in their 90s who lived in the general community also died.
To date, 256 local residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.
There are 120 people with the disease in hospital. Eighteen of them are in intensive care.
Fifty-one locations across Windsor and Essex County have active COVID-19 outbreaks. Of those, 25 are workplaces, 21 are long-term care and retirement homes, three are at Windsor Regional Hospital campuses, and two are community locations.
A new outbreak has been declared at Chartwell Leamington, a retirement home where one staff member and no residents have tested positive.
Since Friday, few additional residents and staff members have tested positive at the other 20 long-term care and retirement homes with active outbreaks in the region.
Windsor Regional Hospital is dealing with two outbreaks at Ouellette campus (the 6E and 4M units) and one at Met campus (4N unit).
A new community outbreak has been declared at the Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario facility on Sandwich Street. The organization also has an active outbreak at its Longfellow Avenue location.
Ten farms — six in Leamington and four in Kingsville — have outbreaks. There are also workplace outbreaks at six health-care and social assistance businesses in Windsor, Lakeshore, and Leamington; three public administration settings in Windsor; two manufacturing facilities in Windsor; a personal service setting in LaSalle; a food and beverage service in Windsor; a retail trade business in Essex; and a finance and insurance business in Essex.
