COVID-19 has hit the Mets family.
Sean Dean, a member of the Mets’ security team from 2002 through 2018, died of the coronavirus on Saturday at age 52, the team’s vice president of alumni public relations Jay Horwitz announced on Twitter.
Dean began as a security guard for the Mets and worked his way up to their senior director of security. He played crucial roles in the team’s security operations during the 2013 All-Star Game and 2015 World Series at Citi Field.
“The last couple days I’ve been reminiscing about the good times and laughs I’ve been fortunate enough to share with Sean over the years,” former Mets captain David Wright wrote in a statement. “It brings a smile to my face even in this incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time. Sean loved his girls (wife Melissa and daughters Brianna, 11, and Emma, 9) dearly and I hope they know the tremendously positive impact their husband/dad had on the people around him. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to call him a friend.”
A GoFundMe page has been created for Dean’s family.
