On Tamar’s Under Construction podcast, she had her friend Nene Leakes as a guest. The two talked about walking away from reality TV.
Both have this in common: they fell out completely with the network that gave them their start. Tamar has blasted WE TV for mistreatment as Nene is gearing up to sue Bravo.
During their conversation, they make some shocking revelations.
‘The other thing is, you could still be going just as hard as you were when you first came out but that corporate devil is sitting right there. It’s a corporate devil that people don’t know is controlling a lot of your career. I did a lot of competition shows. I did Celebrity Apprentice, I did Cupcake Wars. I did a competition show where Gregg and I were cooking for these MasterChef people. Corporate devil is a beast. That’s all I got to tell you. Like you think you’re going on these shows and you’re going to be like ‘I can win.’ Actually, before you even get on the show they already know who the winner is. That’s the corporate devil. It’s a lot that happens behind the scenes that people just don’t know about,’ Nene explained.
The corporate monster being referred to made listeners think she was speaking about networks who want to have a hand in everything that their employees are doing.
By keeping the talent in long and meticulous contracts, a network is able to approve or deny ventures and sometimes — they take a percent of the profit made.
Tamar also opened up about her experience at the real and her nightmare with WE TV who she now believes got her fired from the daytime talk show.
‘I heard that that network that I was working with at the time would not sign off, and allowed me and them girls to fall out in public, almost ruined my whole career, my livelihood, everything that I’ve worked for, and never said one time, didn’t say ‘Okay you’re the star of the network, we’re gonna have a meeting with you, we don’t want you to do the show no more.’ At least give me a heads up but no…pulled the plug and ain’t say nothing and allowed Loni to take the fall, Adrienne, Jeannie, Tamera, and myself. ‘
