The mother of a seven-year-old girl found dead in a home in Laval Jan. 3 has been released on conditions.
The woman, whose name is subject to a publication ban, was charged with criminal negligence causing death and assault on Friday.
Her bail is subject to conditions including a $1,000 bond, keeping the peace and returning to court on April 12. She also had to surrender her passport and not communicate with certain people or be in certain places.
At the time, Laval police had not ruled out the possibility that the girl died after receiving bodily injuries.
Quebec’s Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse announced it would hold its own inquiry into the death. The inquiry, which will not be public, will determine if the rights of the child, whose case was the subject of a complaint to the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse, were respected and prevent a similar situation from recurring.
