The Walking Dead Season 10 is getting an additional six episodes, to tide fans over between now and Season 11, the last ever season of the AMC zombie show, currently set for 2022. These bonus episodes, the trailer for which has been released, have made the most of the coronavirus-related filming restrictions by telling intimate stories featuring fewer cast members. Per the promo, among the characters being focused on are Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who is set to confront the demons of his past, and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), fresh from her return earlier in TWD Season 10.
As well as giving fans a hint of what to expect from the upcoming Season 10C, the trailer also reveals the latest release date for the AMC show. The first of the The Walking Dead Season 10 bonus episodes, titled “Home Sweet Home,” will air on Sunday, February 28 at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT.
As with all the other bonus episodes, however, AMC+ subscribers will be able to watch on the prior Thursday, meaning the first episode will air on the service on February 25, 2021.
Below are all the release dates for the six upcoming TWD episodes:
- Season 10, Episode 17, “Home Sweet Home”: February 28 (Feb 25 on AMC+)
- Episode 18, “Find Me”: March 7 (Mar 4 on AMC+)
- Episode 19, “One More”: March 14 (Mar 11 on AMC+)
- Episode 20, “Splinter”: March 21 (Mar 18 on AMC+)
- Episode 21, “Splinter”: March 28 (Mar 25 on AMC+)
- Episode 22, “Here’s Negan”: March April 4 (Apr 1 on AMC+)
Though these bonus episodes had previously been teased in interviews and when the official synopsis for each was released, the trailer gave viewers their first glimpse of footage from the bonus episodes.
Among the scenes teased in this preview were the return of Negan’s past as the boss as the Saviors. In the trailer, we see not only the current version of Negan but his leather-clad, baseball bat-wielding incarnation. Now Negan seems haunted by his past, with this previous version of himself saying, “little pig, little pig, let me come in.” As suggested by its title, the Negan-centred episode is the season finale, with the finale teasing it will see “Negan reflect on the events that led him to this point and come to a conclusion about his future.”
The new set of episodes will begin with the Maggie-fronted episode, and the promo also gave viewers a glimpse of that. However, she also seems haunted by Negan’s past. In the trailer, we see her son Hershel, now eight years old, and she has to grapple with whether Negan ever truly was punished for murdering her son’s father Glenn (Steven Yeun.)
The Walking Dead bonus episodes trailer also gave fans a glimpse of two new characters, played by Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick and One Tree Hill‘s Hilarie Burton respectively.
The former is playing a mysterious character called Mays, while Burton is playing Lucille, aka Negan’s dead wife—fittingly, as the actress is the real-life wife of Jeffrey Dead Morgan. The fact that we are seeing Lucille suggests that this is another part of Negan’s moral reckoning with his past.
The Walking Dead Season 10 continues from February 28 on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT on AMC and Thursdays from February 25 on AMC+.
