Lancer recruit
The University of Windsor Lancers men’s volleyball team has added 6-foot-2 outside hitter Noah Koskie to its 2021-22 recruiting class.
Koskie, who is from Winnipeg, was named team MVP at his high school and a division all-star in helping his team to a championship. On the club level, he was named a provincial all-star and won the team’s leadership award.
“Noah is a great addition to our team,” Lancers men’s head volleyball coach James Gravelle said in a release. “He is a strong passer and blocker and can play multiple positions. He has excellent poise, a quiet confidence and high volleyball IQ. We look forward to Noah’s arrival in Windsor to get started.”
Lavoie honoured
Leamington high school grad and Windsor Essex Swim Team product Madison Lavoie was named female athlete of the week at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss.
A junior, Lavoie won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team in a dual meet at the University of West Florida. Lavoie, who is from Wheatley, won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.29, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:22.42 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.21 while helping the 200-yard medley relay team to victory in a time of 1:43.13.
Volleyball Canada
University of Windsor Lancers men’s volleyball players Pierce Johnson and Steven Abrams were among 19 male athletes named by Volleyball Canada to the National Excellence Program (NEP).
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Johnson, who is from Chatham, is an outside hitter. He was named an OUA and U Sports first-team all-star last season and was named the OUA West Division player of the year while earning Lancers’ male athlete of the year for a second-straight year
