Kokrajhar (Assam): Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the former is committed for development of the northeast and added that he initiated all measures to ensure peace prevails in the region. Shah said Prime Minister Modi initiated the process to end insurgency in the northeast by signing the Bodo Peace Accord.

“With the Bodo Peace Accord, the Prime Minister gave the message that negotiate and pave way for peace wherever there is unrest in the northeast,” he added.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the first Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Accord Day celebration, the Home Minister said there is a need to identify those instigating disputes in the name of Assamese and non-Assamese, Bodo and non-Bodo.
“They are not doing it for our development but are playing politics. It is high time that people of Assam teach a lesson to such people,” he added while asserting that the Bodo language and culture will be preserved.
Shah stated that efforts were made for settlement of the Bru-Reang issue.
The Home Minster also informed that 700 members of eight armed groups have laid down arms so far.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was also present on the occasion.
