ORLAND PARK, Ill. (CBS) — Two people were shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon while they were driving near a daycare in Orland Park.
As CBS 2’s Tara Molina reported, police were still looking for the gunman late Wednesday. No description has been released, but we know police are looking for a dark-colored car, possibly a Ford Fusion, with tinted windows and no front plate.
Officers were called to the scene outside a KinderCare learning center at 143rd Street and Will-Cook Road at 12:19 p.m., police said.
Police said shots were fired from a black vehicle – possibly a Ford Fusion – toward a gray Hyundai. The 31-year-old man and 23-year-old woman from Blue Island in the Hyundai were both struck, police said.
The victims were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No children at the KinderCare or anywhere else were hurt.
The assailants fled the scene heading north on Will-Cook Road.
Police initially said the shooting was a suspected road rage incident, but later said it was not and the victims were targeted.
“We’re asking for the public’s help,” said Orland Park police Chief Joseph Mitchell. “If anybody was in the area at approximately 12:15, at 143rd and Will-Cook road, we’re asking you call the Orland Park Police Department.”
Orland Park police can be reached at (708) 349-4111.
