CHICAGO (CBS) — Cold air will be in place as our weekend storm moves into our area.
Plenty of moisture will ride the front from the Gulf of Mexico, enhancing precipitation.
Heavy rain for the southern part of the storm and heavy snow to the north, with a mix in the middle.
We expect snow showers to start with sunset Saturday. This storm still must travel all the way across the country, so the track could change.
If mild air pushes into Chicago creating a rain/snow mix to start, that could cut down the snow totals. Or if we stay completely on the cold side, there’s a good chance of more than a half a foot of snow.
The best accumulation would be overnight Saturday into Sunday.
The low on Thursday night is 9, with mostly clear conditions and the first full moon of 2021.
On Friday, expect a sunny start with clouds increasing late, and a high of 30. On Saturday, the high climbs to 35, and on Sunday the high is 33.
