Reports claim Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin is close to sealing a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray this month.
The 27-year-old joined the Magpies in a £5m move for Tottenham in August 2016. The USA international played just one game for Spurs and spent the 2015-2016 campaign on loan with Sunderland.
His time with Newcastle’s rivals did not put off the Tynesiders, who handed the former Seattle Sounders ace a five-year deal. Yedlin has made 124 appearances in all competitions for the north-east outfit.
But his game time has diminished this term, with just five league starts among six outings. Sources suggest that he wanted to remain at St James’ Park.
And it has also been claimed that Newcastle gave him assurances he would see more action. However, with his contract up in the summer and nothing new on the table, he will move to Turkey, according to ESPN.
Galatasaray made contact with Yedlin on Tuesday and are said to have offered him a three-and-a-half-year contract. Newcastle gave the green light to the proposed deal on Saturday and he will fly to Istanbul for a medical.
He will join a Galatasaray side sitting third in the Turkish Sup Lig but just three points behind table-topping Fenerbahce.
Visa problems hampered Yedlin in January, forcing him to miss the recent loss to Aston Villa. And he played no part as Steve Bruce’s side got back to winning ways by beating Everton 2-0 on Saturday.
Yedlin is vastly experienced, having made 62 appearances for the United States national side. He was part of the Stars and Stripes’ squad that played at the 2014 World Cup.
Another exit on the cards?
Yedlin might not be the only Newcastle player to depart before the transfer window shuts on Monday. Full-back Achraf Lazaar has been linked with Italian giants AC Milan and has made it clear he wants to leave.
The 29-year-old has not played this term and has yet to make a Premier League appearance after joining from Palermo. That was in 2016 and he has been loaned out to various clubs over the past four years.
His agent has been trying to get him out of Newcastle for some time and Milan could come in to rescue him. The Serie A outfit wanted him for nothing but it seems as though they would be willing to pay.
The Moroccan would not cost too much, with his deal set to expire in the summer.
