Vancouver police were called to a rooming house in Gastown early Sunday morning, where two men had been stabbed.
According to Vancouver Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison, when police arrived at 5:30 a.m., they found one of the men had died at the scene, while the other was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Addison said the deceased man was a 40-year-old from Vancouver, while the injured man was 28 and also from Vancouver.
A 48-year-old Vancouver man was arrested nearby and remains in custody.
This is Vancouver’s first homicide of the year.
Last January, 45-year-old Tonya Hyer was found beaten to death in her room in the same building at 112 Water Street. The property is managed by Atira Property Management, a company owned by Atira Women’s Resource Society.
Atira began managing the 95-room Gastown Hotel in 2015. The hotel is owned by the provincial government and rooms cost $375 a month.
