Actor Stanley Tucci has opened up about the death of his first wife, Kate Spath-Tucci, revealing he is still grieving.
The Devil Wears Prada actor lost his wife of 14 years Spath-Tucci, 47, to breast cancer in 2009. The couple had three children together, twins Nicolo and Isabel, now 21, and Camilla, now 19.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Tucci says that over a decade on from her death he continues to struggle with his grief.
“You never stop grieving. It’s still hard after 11 years. It’s still hard. And it will always be hard,” said the actor.
“But you can’t let it… and she would never want any of us to ever wallow in that grief and let it take over our lives. She would never want that. She wasn’t like that.”
In 2012, Tucci married literary agent Felicity Blunt, an English literary agent and the older sister of actress Emily Blunt, after the actress introduced the pair at her wedding to John Krasinski in 2010.
The couple have two children together – Matteo Oliver, six, and Emilia, two – and live in London, where Tucci has caused an online stir with his cocktail-making videos during lockdown.
One video showed Tucci mixing the ingredients for a Negroni (gin, vermouth, campari and ice) in a cocktail shaker while dressed entirely in black with smooth jazz music playing in the background.
Pouring the mixture into coupe glass and adding ice, Tucci named the cocktail a “quanrantucci.”
Fans went wild for the Instagram video, with one commenting: “The person I want to be in lockdown with is Stanley Tucci”.
“I don’t even like negronis but if Stanley Tucci made me one I would drink a dozen,” said another.
Responding to the comments on CBS Sunday Morning, Tucci added: “I was very flattered… it was great. I mean, you’re incredibly flattered when people are just sorta going gaga over you.”
